OsteoFeet Orthotics
Your feet are the integral supports on which the structure of your body depends — like the foundation of a house. Problems stemming from improper foot support can spread and be felt throughout the body.
Do you...
... stand or walk on hard surfaces for more than four hours a day?
... participate regularly in regular physical activity?
... experience joint, back, sciatic, or knee/hip pain?
... suffer from plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis, shin splints, flat feet, or another foot/joint-affecting condition*?
... have poor posture, occupational stress, or are over 40 years old?
Then you may benefit from a pair of our custom in-house OsteoFeet Orthotics.
* Including bowleg/knock-knee, bunions, corns, drop-foot, leg-length inequality/uneven pelvis, pronation, achilles tendonitis, metarsalgia, or diabetes-related circulatory issues.
How custom orthotics can help you
A properly aligned body should have symmetrical feet and be level at the knees, pelvis, and shoulders. Custom orthotics support the bones of your feet and ankles to help you achieve this proper posture, through the density of the materials used and the height/angles of its various surfaces.
Wearing functional orthotics may also:
Over-the-counter orthotics may initially cost less, but they support only one arch in your foot. When only one arch is supported, it may not maintain the holistic structure of the three arches that make up the foot's plantar vault, which can affect the integrity of the ankles, knees, hips, spine, shoulders, and even skull. Stabilizing orthotics are designed to holistially support the entire planar fault to balance the body at its foundation — the feet, holistically relieving pain and improving your physiology and biomechanical systems.
OsteoFeet orthotics are tailor-made after the structure of your feet and body to suit the demands of your unique lifestyle; they improve pain, posture, balance and physical performance in all aspects of life and offer quality-of-life improvements for anyone — young, old, athletic or otherwise. Their postural support can help prevent or treat pain in/of the lower back, hip, joints, or neck and are one of the best ways to deal with malignant foot conditions. Orthotics can become an important element of your care as they help your adjustments hold for longer and prolong your relief and wellness.
Over-the-counter orthotics may offer initial comfort and visual appeal — with soft padding or fancy waterbeads — but don't necessarily provide beneficial or long-lasting relief. OsteoFeet orthotics are custom-made to protect you, not the masses, using materials especially selected to suit your needs.
How we make our OsteoFeet custom orthotics
Thanks to our partners at SensorMedica, Osteo has streamlined and completely integrated the process of orthotic analysis and production in-office. Here's what you can expect from your orthotics process, as a walk-through of the incredible machines and programs we use to make your custom insoles.
Spine3D
Our Spine3D scanning technology executes a detailed and non-invasive complete spinal analysis in a manner of seconds. Through its markerless infrared rays, Spine3D gathers and reproduces the anatomical structure and shape of your shoulders, back, and pelvis, allowing an in-depth analysis of the vertebral column — and any possible deformities. The Spine3D software produces automatic and detailed reports on spinal morphology, letting us empower you with same-session clinical feedback.
freeMed™ Baropodometric Platform
The freeMed™ Baropodometric Platform allows us to run a comprehensive postural assessment in just a few steps. With integrated examination software and pressure sensors capable of processing over 400 frames per second, the platform meticulously breaks down foot length, weight distribution, center of gravity, arch support, gait line, and more through static and dynamic gait analyses.
Podoscan3D
Our Podoscan3D hardware captures high-fidelity images of the foor; we use three-dimensional digital reproduction accurate within a single millimeter to fine-tune custom insoles to your exact needs.
easyCAD™ and EasySnap3D
With our easyCAD™ software and EasySnap3D printer, we can design and produce custom orthotic insoles in-house! Drawing from data collection from Podoscan3D scans and other exams, the easyCAD™ program streamlies the production process while boasting versatile design parameters to customize each orthotic to bring you individualized relief. When ready, we print the insoles in our lobby with the EasySnap3D printer; made with soft thermoplastic filaments, our custom insoles turn out lightweight, flexible, durable, and accurate to your easyCAD™ model.
FAQ
Foot levellers functional orthotics are custom-made to help maintain your adjustments and keep you supported. Each type of orthotic—Premium, Intense, Moderate, etc.—is designed to provide an optimal amount of support for a particular activity, so wearing one type for multiple occasions can compromise their intended support and structural integrity. For instance, wearing a luxury top in your running shoes will not only wear down the material rapidly, since it wasn’t designed for that kind of activity, but it will also slip more easily because it is crafted using leather. That's why we recommend multiple pairs for your multiple shoes and activities.
Orthotics are crafted separately from your shoes, unless you’re investing in Shoethotics® or Sandalthotics®. Because all shoes are made differently, you may need to trim the toe end of the orthotic so that it matches the liner your shoe came with; otherwise, the orthotic may not fit properly. The best way to do this is to place the liner on top of the orthotic and trim any overlap off the orthotic. This way, the orthotic fits just as the liner did: perfectly inside the shoe.
It can take some time for a new pair of custom orthotics to conform to your feet and for your body to adjust to proper, healthy support. If you haven’t worn orthotics before, your feet need to adapt to the unique corrections to maintain the integrity of your plantar vault—the three arches in your feet that help keep your body in balance. If you don’t give it 45 days and follow the break-in procedures, you may not experience the full benefits of using orthotics.
Orthotics are guaranteed for an entire year but are built to last for two. Foot Levelers recommends a new pair every two years, but more active patients may require replacements more frequently.
Keep your orthotics dry (unless they are Aquaguard™ custom orthotics, designed specifically to withstand moisture). If your orthotics are too long for your shoes, don't worry: trim them carefully by using the original shoe liner as a stencil and cutting around it. Water damage and mis-trimmings are not covered by the warranty, so please be careful. Take them out of your shoes to “breathe” at the end of every day. It’s best to have multiple pairs of orthotics for support in every pair of shoe, and for every activity.
Statistics & Studies
"A custom orthotic puts your foot in an ideal position at every stage of walking, running and pivoting,"
... from David A. Schofield, the president of the American Podiatric Medical Association, which represents more than 12,000 podiatrists across the nation. "You'll be at your most strong and at your maximum efficiency [sic]." Dr. Schofield recommends custom orthotics to 90 percent of his patients — and he's not alone.
Prescriptions for custom orthotics are becoming almost commonplace. Industrywide sales of specially made orthotic devices have risen at a rate of 12% annually in the last five years, reflecting both their effectiveness and growing demand. Baby boomers who participate in more strenuous sports than their forebears did in middle age don't want to be sidelined by foot pain. And custom orthotics can be combined with traditional remedies — like icing, rest, and stretching — to excellent effect.
Several studies have shown beneficial effects of custom orthotics. A 1991 survey of 347 runners who used custom orthotics after suffering an injury found that 75% reported complete or near-complete recovery, and 90% continued to use their inserts after recovery. A more recent investigation in 2011 similarly found that custom orthotics reduced pain and were well-tolerated among most runners.
